First of all Anne, you are going to LOVE Kimberly Smith if you have not previously attended one of her workshops. She is Awesome!! I think your staff will also enjoy implementing this classroom strategy. You action research plan is well written. You did a good job in creating actions steps that will continue through the course of the school year. Is it possible that you could find a way to involve parents. Teachers could teach a mini lesson at a PTA meeting or Parent night highlighting a component of "Love and Logic". You might be able to gain valuable data that could be used to support your findings. Good Luck and I will continue to read. Thanks for the post!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - I am adding that now! Thanks for the tip.
DeleteI am a huge proponent of L&L thanks to my wife patiently teaching me with and through our kids. As a result, I carried many L&L elements into my classroom. I would encourage you to consider adding opportunities for fellow staff members to observe or train in the L&L methods. I see you have a refresher course listed as an action step. Maybe add an introduction or primer course for those who are totally unaware or maybe needing a reminder to start the year? I'm excited for your middle school to have this program put into place. It's outstanding!
ReplyDeleteI love the book Teaching with love and logic. But I do agree with Ryan we need to see things 5-6 times before it really sinks in for us to be able to use it comfortably. I also like your keeping a list of how it was used by teachers. IT will also be a good resource tool for those unsure of how it can be used. Excellent idea.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the ideas already suggested. I think you have a great topic and will enjoy looking into L&L. I do think that including parents in this process would be an interesting piece to this journey. I can't wait to hear about the outome of your inquiry!
ReplyDeleteWere you the only teacher on your campus implementing L&L strategies?
ReplyDeleteIt would be good to compare teachers using and not using those strategies in the classroom if possible.
I did a similar training called "Capturing Kids Heart" so I know you will come away with lots of ideas.
Good luck on your project.
My school like Christina's school is using "Capturing Kids Heart" I think that having structured classrooms and procedures for hallways help students with learning. It has made a difference but there are still areas that need to be worked on. I am looking forward to reading about it.
ReplyDeleteLove and Logic is great! Middle school students can really benefit if implemented correctly. This will help with behavior and self esteem. Our school went to the training. It wasn't successful at our campus only because a handful of teachers were implementing it. With the support of your administrator Love and Logic can work well. Good Luck!
